The 908th Airlift Wing’s Force Support Squadron held a Blues Inspection March 5 at Maxwell Air Force Base.

“It’s important for us to reach and keep the standard,” said Lt. Col. Jennifer Berry, commander of the 908th FSS. “We are supposed to enforce the standard and we can’t do that if we can’t set and reach the standard ourselves.”

Senior leaders know the importance of conducting inspections.

“Our dress and personal appearance are visible examples of our commitment and self-discipline to the team,” explained Chief Master Sgt. Martha Roy, 908th FSS superintendent. “Inspections are a conduit to remind us of the importance of being in compliance at all times. Blues inspections for the FSS has been a yearly event since 2012.”

Someone in Roy’s position knows exactly what to look for during the inspections.

“We are looking to see that the uniforms are buttoned, clean, neat, and properly maintained as outlined in [Air Force Instruction] 36-2903, ‘Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel,’” said Roy.

Roy also had some good tips for junior members or those that don’t have inspections very often.

“The easiest fix in preparation of the inspection is to have your wingman check you over prior to assembly,” explained Roy. “Check for lint, polished shoes, alignment of name tag, ribbons and badges.”

Roy was pleased with the results of this inspection.

“Overall the inspection went very well,” said Roy. “There were a few minor findings, but other than that everyone did well. The biggest obstacle this year during our outside inspection was combatting the cold weather.”

Roy also wanted to emphasize the importance of inspections one last time.

“Uniform inspections should not stop just because we returned from basic military training,” said Roy. “Our dress and appearance identifies us as a United States Air Force Airmen, and whenever we put our uniform on we should be proud of its deeply rooted heritage. Inspections are an opportunity for all of us to re-blue.”
