Air Force Reservists honor civil rights pioneer
A group of 908th Airlift Wing Air Force reservists led by Col. Jon Andre attend the March 1 funeral of civil rights pioneer, Mrs. Jonnie R. Carr. Carr, who passed away Feb. 22 at age 97, led the Montgomery (Ala.) Improvement Association, an organization formed in 1955 when her childhood friend, Rosa Parks, was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man. Parks' arrest sparked the Montgomery bus boycott, and drew national attention to the fight against segregation as well as one of the boycott's leaders, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Colonel Andre, the 908th AW's vice commander, heads the wing's Human Resource Development Council. He is flanked by Capts. Tonia Stephens, Dreidra Randolph and Deana Goudeau, Master Sgt. Gloria D'errico and Maj. Erica Parks. (U.S. Air Force photo by Lt Col. Jerry Lobb)
