MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE -- Technical Sergeant Marlin Kennedy is an aerospace maintenance craftsman and a dedicated crew chief for the C-130 Hercules with the 908th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Kennedy performs scheduled maintenance to ensure the overall integrity of his assigned aircraft.
Kennedy was originally born in Heidelberg, Germany, because his father was in the Army. At the age of four, his father was transferred to Redstone Arsenal in Madison, Alabama. He would later go on to retire from there.
He graduated from high school in 2006 and went on to enlist in the Air Force in 2009. Since his father was in the Army he knew he wanted to join the military as well. After joining the Air Force Reserve, Kennedy has had the opportunity to get a full-time position as an Air Reserve Technician.
“Being an ART helps give me more experience as an NCO since I am able to spend more time managing and interacting with people and making sure that they are taken care of,” said Kennedy. “There’s a lot more to this than just turning wrenches on an aircraft.”
He said he loves his job because he enjoys working with his hands and using his problem-solving skills. From aircraft at work to his truck at home, he tinkers with it all. In his off time, Kennedy even helps others fix their own vehicles. He said that knowing he is able to put his talents to good use by serving his country is a great feeling.
“Being a reservist and a full time civil servant is more than just a job,” said Kennedy. “I am able to serve my country, my community, and make my family proud by continuing a tradition of family service.”
Having Airmen like Tech. Sgt. Kennedy who are dedicated to perfecting their craft and leading others is how the 908th AW is able to provide combat capability anytime and anywhere.
